Awesome Progress

Blazer

With Nintenlord's awesome text editor boosting our work speeds (and motivation) 10 fold, we've been making good progress. And it's not even complete--he still has some work to do and I gave him some more text hacking information so he can make it even more awesome and double our speed once more!

I feel you guys need to have something to look at for keeping up with things for so long. This'll be the last screenshot update for more than a week though, and I probably won't be around to make the next update since I'm going on vacation, meaning you'll likely see Arch around here a bit more (but he's a cool guy or else I'd have forgotten him :D).

Okay so as you can see nothing's perfect and there's still MUCH more progress to be made even on the basic stuff. But we're making a shitload of progress IMO, and who do you have to thank? Not me, but everyone else on the team. VincentASM and Arch, the respective creators of Serenes Forest and Fire Emblem Universe (now Shrine of Seals), have been working their asses off and translating/hacking things left and right. In fact all I'm doing is making the posts about it lately, that's how useless I am.

Seriously, all those screenshots I posted are Vincent's and Arch's, so make a comment and compliment them on their hard work because they'd leave Nintendo in the dust in a race and we all know it. :D

  1. Don't know if you know, but livejournal user Shimazu Hitomi done some rough translations of some dialogue/supports/endings for FE12. I don't know if you want to use them to save a little time but they are from:

  2. Oh yes, and awesome work so far. :)

  3. I don't think so the reason being that we'd have to confirm the legitimacy of his translations as well as getting it into a hacking format, etc. etc., it's just going to be a bit of a pain; I'd rather we just do it ourselves since we can trust ourselves and go through the process. As a result we probably won't even be using the already-translated scripts of FE3 (unless things start to look bad and we have to...).

  4. Hi. I came here to thank you for deciding, you Blazer and those who help you of course, to translate this game, I'm a huge fan of fire emblem, and it seems this fire emblem can be interesting at least much more than Fire emlem 11... But I had one question, in the game there are some conversations at the base normally, do you also plan to translate them?

And about the names, of course I would prefer the European names, as I'm in Europe, but if you don't use the European names, I won't be furious, after all, you are those who make the translation, and the most important is having the script translated as well as the mechanics of the games such as the stats in fighting or in status. Of course, if a program allows us to change the name, it would be good, but it is really according to me nothing more than an addition to the translation.

  5. Yes, we plan to translate as much as the game within our possibility; a few graphical texts are really the only thing we might not be able to translate. :\

As I said many times the program will almost definitely be released so people will be able to use the names they want. What we're doing is using what makes the more sense/has the most reasoning/will get us the least complaints, since we can't please everyone.

  6. And you're absolutely right with this, you can't please everyone at once, I'm fully aware of this, this is why I think it's really not important to complain about the names you choose to use.

But you said maybe a few graphical texts may not be translateable, what are for example these graphical texts? Can you give us an exemple? Not necessarily with a screen of course, but it would be better to know what may not be possible to translate...

  7. well mates its great to see that we are making progress! :) just wondering, is there going to be a patch any time soon? not really a priority but it would be nice. :) anyway, great work guys and keep it up! at this rate, you'll have a lot translated soon!

  8. thank you so much ive been waiting for a translation forever

  9. "moving" text or active text that might use a different "storage" format for graphical data than normal. We should be able to get graphical menus translated, for instance, but not necessarily the intro cutscene or even those text labels on the map. Nothing's for sure but we're just throwing it out that it won't be a PERFECT translation.

Also due to the voting we won't release a patch until everything's completely done. We had planned on that anyway, but the current 50% for waiting for a complete patch just sealed the deal big time.

We'll try and keep you updated and whatnot though so that time will pass by and it'll be done before you know it. ^_^

  10. It's good to hear that, but I wonder why in the dialogues only the capital letters appear? anyway I just hope the patch be released soon

  11. As we said it's still in progress, give it more time.

  12. Thank you so much for doing this, I thought I'd never be able to play the game but now things are looking promising! Good work, it's really appreciated. I just wish I was able to help with something, but I've no experience with either editing graphics or the Japanese language :/

  13. i have absolutely no experience with the jap language but if you need the help, i am a pretty good graphic editor!

  17. Thanks for all the comments guys.

@Alex umm what is this? I don't remember who you are (sorry, I talk to too many people -_____-) and I don't understand what this save thing is for and why you're giving it to me. In any case I don't need anybody to give me anything to translate, the team will translate everything on their own as they can. :\

  18. Hi is Alex again that save got the download wifi content you can check it out in other to watch the HIDDEN episodes of the game, cuz this was only in japan thanks.

  19. Hello, I first want to say congrats on your wonderful efforts on this. While I am sad the game may not come to the US officially, this is hella cool too.

    So a few questions:

    1. Could you guys possibly add the extra downloaded chapters and the downloaded items, such as the maturity drop and the rainbow potion? For those of us that don't have a flashcart, that would be cool

2: Do you know of any solid Mac emulators that could run this game well?

3: I stupidly solid my DS Lite and all I have is my 3DS now. I'd love to play the translated version of FE12 on a DS so I can play on wifi. Do you know of any solid 3DS flashcarts that are out yet?

Thanks so much for your time :)

  20. @Alex umm, okay...

    @most recent Anonymous, thanks.

    1) I'm sorry but we don't plan on doing any hacking outside of translating. Even though it's always nice to be able to play all the features of the game without flashcarts, it doesn't fit into the "translating" category. Perhaps if enough people want it we can make a separate patch later though, but right now, we don't plan on it.

    2) Desmume should have a working Mac version (but I'm not a Mac user so I can't verify this). http://desmume.org/download/

    3) :( I'm sorry, I only know of a few flashcarts, none of which are for the 3DS (I personally use an SuperCard DSTWO with my DS Lite). I'm not sure there are even any 3DS flashcarts created yet. I suggest you check http://www.gbatemp.net for info on flashcarts, they are pretty well-known for such things.

  22. Thanks for your answers, and I understand. I have one last question.

I have seen in the last few screenshots that My Unit was just called "Player." I think in the Japanese version they said the name of the My Unit in battle and on the map. Will that be implemented in the translation? I'd love for it to not say "Player" in the final version.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My Unit is only called "Player" in the very old patch that is still available for download--currently s/he is called "Chris" the default Japanese name. Said name can be changed to whatever the player wants (although the character limit for the name currently appears to be only 6 characters, something we'd like to change but don't think we'll be able to). We're also implementing an English font in the choose-your-name menu so that people can write names in English as opposed to Japanese.

    So don't worry. =)
