Graphical progress (June)

Aveyn Knight

What's this? Two blog posts in quick succession?

Well, I haven't been doing much for a while, due to covering FE: Awakening, but at long last I finally seem to have some time. So I figured I'd help Blazer a bit with the graphical hacking.

Now I'll be honest, graphic hacking isn't really my favourite thing, but I figured Blazer would appreciate any help he got.

At the moment, I'm working on the dictionary feature and I've successfully replaced the country's name and name plates for the Altean characters, which you can see in the image below.

(Don't mind the weird text, I was just testing some punctuation)

The rest of the dictionary looks pretty tricky, like the relationship and group text. If you check the fuzzy weird image to the right, you might notice it's the same shape as the normal-looking image to the left.

The problem is, what the heck do I do to make it look normal? o__o

Ah, well, that's what graphical hacking is like. Sometimes it's easy, other times it's frustratingly obtuse. I'm hoping Blazer will notice this post (after I thoroughly prod him) and give me some pointers.

Otherwise, I guess I'll have to try and my luck and see if something works... Just another day at the office really.

  1. Oh, the joy of graphical hacking

yeah I'm currently busy hacking for TU like 12 out of every 24 hours of the day but eventually (like by Monday) I'm going to get sick of it and start working 12 out of every 24 hours on FE12 instead, at which point I'll help you with this.

  2. Just thought I would be a good idea to say thank you. You see, I've realized I haven't thanked everybody working so hard to make this translation with something lenghtier than a "thank you for yor hard work", so I thought it would be nice to tell everybody, through this comment, I really am thankful for such an amazing work you all are doing, not only translating, but taking your time to make it as perfect as possible, while sharing this fantastic work of yours with everyone around the world. I really wish I could help with something at all, in order to show you how truly thankful I am, but, as I already mentioned before, the only thing I could help with is chemistry, I guess.

So, to sum it up, thank you for such selfless and inspiring work.

P.S.: If you DO have problems with chemistry, just PM me at the forums. And sorry about my poor english, I'm brazilian, not a native speaker.

    1. I already got a 5 on my AP Chem test, that's all that matters.

(lol not really, I'll probably end up studying more chem at uni)

    2. I am almost graduated in chemistry, so you could ask quiet. It would be a way to return the favor to you for the translation!

  5. I have a question Blazer that you will probably want to slap me for but I am curious if you guys somehow dont manage to get this finished before 13 comes out are you just gonna release the patch? I personally dont mind waiting even if it does happen to where its out after 13 I am just curious.

*waits to get hit by Blazer*

    1. I... can't get myself to hit you T_T

Not sure why, I just... can't. >_> This isn't like me.

In all seriousness, while progress seems to be slow now, I can instantly turn on the turbo; while we do have plenty of time I have no intention of letting this get released after 2012 and will do as many all-nighters as possible.

But I suppose if I died then we would just wait until this finishes regardless of whether FE13 comes out or not... >_>'

  6. You guys are incredible to learn how to do this, and Blazer is in highschool? I was a full-IB student and I had no time for anything, nevermind learning how to hack and completing a project such as this one (well nearly). You guys are pretty great, I'm almost envious. Thanks again!

    2. How do people know I'm in... wait I'm not in high school I just graduated! Rawr! ;)

And I'm not very smart, I took some AP classes but I never did well in them [s]minus Chemistry: I failed Stats and Psychology this year... mainly because I'm too lazy to do work[/s]so yeah, I'm not that great >___>'

also I sleep like 4 hours on average so I have about 4-6 more hours of free time than the average person. (Read: while people are getting Zzz's, I'm hacking)

    3. You being too lazy to do work does not compute.

Anyway, can I ask where you're planning to go for university though? I mean, you can totes ignore this comment if you don't want to answer.

  7. Thanks for doing such a hard work in this Patch. I have every Fire Emblem game (except for the ones that are only in Japan) and I was waiting for this one. So I tell you that I give you all my support ;D
