Title screen progress

Aveyn Knight

Blazer's a bit embarrassed at the moment, so I guess I'll post a bit of new progress. In due time, I'm sure Blazer will surprise everybody with his crazy work.

Thanks to Veperine, we now have a shiny English title screen!

screenshot

If you look carefully you might notice some little hiccups, like the registered trademark symbol floating directly over the logo and a slightly dull and sloppy placeholder subtitle, but these are things that will be fixed for the final version.

Anyway, I'm here to ask if anybody has any opinions of what to name the subtitle for this game. The original subtitle "New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~" is a bit of a mouthful and won't fit in the game without looking incredibly ugly.

At the moment, it's looking likely that we'll use "(New) Mystery of the Emblem" or "Heroes of Light and Shadow", but if you have any better (or funny) alternatives, feel free to suggest them in the comments!

  1. I think just "Heroes of Light and Shadow" would work. It sounds better than the original, and better than "New Mystery of the Emblem."

    But that's just my opinion.

    1. Me too.

      FIRE EMBLEM: NEW MYSTERY OF THE EMBLEM is too repetitive to really work imo.

    2. ...Sorry?

      ANYWAY I thought of a cool reason to go with Heroes of Light and Shadow. Also counts as an AHA~! moment for me, which has been long overdue.
      See, Marth is the Hero of Light because he becomes a legitimate historical figure, while MU is the Hero of Shadow because he remains in the shadows - unknown, unheeded, but hardly unnecessary to the war effort.

      QED.

      Also, I love some of the goofier name suggestions so far haha.

    3. I would go with Heroes of Light and Shadow.

      New Mystery of the Emblem sounds a bit generetic.

  2. I personally think "New Mystery of the Emblem" is the best to use, as it also denotes that it is a sequel/remake of another Fire Emblem game and Serenes Forest has the game listed under "New Mystery" so it would help people associate the two easier I feel.

    1. Vincent owns SF and is also working on this so it shouldn't take much for SF to be updated :P

      I do agree that the denotion of a sequel/remake -is- a good idea, and which is why I insisted the "New" be put in, or else it doesn't feel like a truly remade and improved game (Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem makes me think it's just a port >_> even though I know better).

    2. I hear that, I personally would want "New" in the title as well for the same reasons you presented. But yeah, while it seems most of us on the site are smart enough to tell which game is which I just though it would be a good idea for others if we used a recognizable name for the game which I felt "New Mystery of the Emblem" was, as others have said below. Perhaps I've just been spending too much time on the GFaqs Awakening forums and have gotten cynical due to the 30 threads a day asking similar questions.

  9. Shadow Dragon threw the "sword of light" thing away when translating, so it does make sanse to throw half of the title away.
    So far, I guess what has been suggested is:

    - New Mystery of the Emblem;
    - Heroes of Light and Shadow;
    - Light and Shadow;
    - Mystery of Blazer;
    - Blazing Light and Shadow.

    I kinda feel like HLS sounds better than NME, though I also agree that HLS is still quite long. However, just Light and Shadow lacks meaning, so I guess a nice option to shorten the title would be messing up with the order, making Light and Shadow Heroes. Although that only excludes one single word, it does fit better, in my opinion.

    So, adding my opinion to the list, there goes the updated list:

    - New Mystery of the Emblem (NMotE/NME);
    - Heroes of Light and Shadow (HoLaS/HLS);
    - Light and Shadow (LaS/LS);
    - Mystery of Blazer (MoB/MB);
    - Blazing Light and Shadow (BLaS/BLS);
    - Light and Shadow Heroes (LaSH/LSH).

  11. Hello, I've been watching the project for some time, and I have done this by the time the final version was made, but I think now is a better time to show it:
    http://i46.tinypic.com/34xkzyu.png
    So, I think that "Fire Emblem New Mystery Of The Emblem, Heroes of Light and Shadow" is best. xD
    Also, if you think that I would be useful with the graphics that may be required I think I can help, if you want.
    And I'm bad writing in english, so tell me if I wrote bad something in the boxart (or here) xD

    1. I like this. If we combine it with the other subtitle we get "New Mystery of the Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow" which is still kinda long, but not awkward or redundant. it could be tricky to put text above "Fire Emblem" on title screen, tho.

  29. I'd advocate sticking with "New Mystery of the Emblem". It's almost universally known by that title, and it avoids potential needless confusion regarding its lesser-known second half of the subtitle.

  38. These days, it seems that Nintendo goes with shorter titles. Things like "Skyward Sword" or "Shadow Dragon" or "Uprising" (the new Kid Icarus) tend to roll off the tongue easier. I think "Heroes of Light and Shadow" will work, but it may be more realistic to go with a shorter title. "Light and Shadow" fits the bill, but it's a bit uninspired.

    Sadly, I don't have any new suggestions. At the moment, I think "Heroes of Light and Shadow" is probably the best option.

    1. I've got one! "Fire Emblem: War of Heroes."

      It's a little out there, and I doubt it will be used as the final title, but I figured I'd toss it out there anyway.

      Delete
    2. This one actually makes sense. I'm impressed.

      Delete
    3. War of Heroes implies that both sides are in the right here and that's it's a War *BETWEEN* heroes, not simply WITH heroes.

      Whereas the enemy is clearly a corrupted individual and hardly respected as a Hero in the same manner that Marth is...

      Delete
    4. This war, however, is entitled War of the Heroes, if memory serves. That and the "fake" enemy was also a hero of some sort.

      Delete
    5. You sure it wasn't the War of Shadows?

      Delete
    6. It's called the War of Heroes in Akaneian history because their history remembers that the war's two faces of the conflict were Marth of Altea vs. Hardin of Akaneia, two men known to have been respected by each other as skilled warriors and leaders during the War of Shadows when Marth defeated the Dark Sorcerer Gharnef and the Earth Dragon Medeus. The fact that Gharnef and Medeus pulled the strings in order to kick off the War of Heroes wasn't discovered until later.

  43. I would like to commend everyone involved! I am very excited to play FE12, no matter what it is named. I am very excited to be able to create my own unit and kick some butt! :)

    I have played FE1-FE4 and FE6-FE11 to completion with all characters alive and to the end. :) So naturally I am excited about another great FE game to play in English! (I began FE5:Thracia 776 yesterday and am terrified since I have heard nothing but how this game is insanely difficult.)

    So, point being: name it whatever you like, I am just excited to play it! :) Thank you again for all your hard work.

  46. My vote goes to seeing the whole name fit onto the title screen somehow, even if it's a mouthful, for the sake of completion. People will refer to it by a shorter name either way, and it'll probably leave less room for argument about it.

    I would suggest against leaving out New Mystery of the Emblem from the title, because "New Mystery" has already caught on in various places to identify the game. The other subtitle decidedly hasn't. IIRC, Scott Adams put it once that if a name for something that isn't named yet takes off and sticks, it's (usually) a keeper.

  47. ...never mind that wasn't thinking of the Vergil brouhaha when I typed that, but still!

  50. The best title that comes to mind is FIRE EMBLEM: HEROES OF TWILIGHT
    1)Its shorter than heroes of light and shadow
    2) Its a mix of light and shadow
    3) (personally) Sounds way cooler

    ReplyDelete
  51. I like Heroes of Light and Shadow. I really don't like the name "(New) Mystery of the Emblem", just sounds odd.

  52. Fire Emblem: The Heroes of Dawn

    ReplyDelete
  53. While Marth is the Lord of the game, isn't my unit the main character of the game? I think a name like 'Fire Emblem: The Untold Saga' would be pretty cool, since my unit's place in the story was "Lost in history".

  56. I believe that someone had someone had mentioned Heroes of Shadow earlier. I believe this would be a decent title, because the heroes of the previous game, Shadow Dragon, will be in this game. Another reason is because of the name that you have taken in the creation of this project, which coincidentally, is Heroes of Shadow. Although, Blazer, you think everyone is joking about using your name in the title, I've noticed most of them are NOT joking.

    I propose that it be called Fire Emblem's Heroes of Shadow.
    If you would like to take your credit, where credit is due, (which I believe would be almost entirely supported by the fan base of the Fire Emblem players that are following this game:

  61. If you're looking for something shorter than "heroes of light and shadow" (an albeit good title anyway) i think the best ones so far are:

    Heroes of Light (for that epic feel)
    Heroes of Shadow (to match shadow dragon and still be epic)
    Heroes of the Emblem (to incorporate the NMotE title and oh ya, also epic)

    the Marth and Some Guy one made me lolz for days. xD
