Final Cryptic Post

Aveyn Knight

Sorry, I know I'm barely trying here.

Something something closed something something beta soon.

Here's a question to not be totally boring: How often would you like to see patch releases after the completed patch is finished?

While the completed patch should be perfectly playable, it might not be feasible to polish EVERYTHING and we might have missed a few specks here and there.

  1. well you can do version 1.0 then 1.0.1 1.0.2 but make you test them well :)

    1. due to the menu patches we're already over v2

though I suppose we could hurt my feelings and start back at version 1... lol

  2. Minor details are minor details. People won't nitpick if you choose a fast release over a polished one (or they might but then you can just say that people said they wouldn't).

  3. I would say that patch releases would only really need to be done with "Major" issues (What ever those may classify as). Minor aesthetic issues shouldn't need to warrant a patch until they start to really accumulate. I'm sure the community would be more than happy to help with any sort of polish with feedback.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I personally don't mind if extra patches are done after the "final" patch. People who don't care about minor aesthetic issues can take the first one and go, those of us interested in extra polishing of the patch can stick around.

  5. Imo most people would be happy to just have the patch come out
so they could understand the dialogue, and immerse themselves in the story rather than pick at the minor bugs like ''why does Marth have green hair, it's supposed to be blue''. Some of the translation patches I've found on serenes forest are far from polished themselves, I think coming out with the full patch and having patch fixes released would be the better option, at least that way we could give you feedback on your forum if there was ever an issue eating away at us like a boss that could never die. Besides even if you released the full patch with minor bugs and never released patch updates i'm grateful and content with the amount of work and effort you guys put in already, so thanks for that my heroes of shadow whomever you maybe.

  7. Honestly, I'd like an alternate patch that uses the EU names, but I understand that's not really feasible considering all the extra text-editing and graphical text editing that would need to be done to make it.

  8. I am so hyped. If hype levels were a thing that could be measured, and also a power source, the indicators that say how much hype there is would explode. Then the power plant to which my hype is attached would overload, resulting in a horrible explosion of hype that left millions without power, and left the area uninhabitable for years due to the hype fallout.

I wish I could give you guys money for this. Or hugs. Or both.

I wish I could hug you with money.

    1. Look if my hype was put into power the universe wouldn`t exist anymore. Now more importantly I want to hug them with hugs, also the patches should come out once you`ve found a fair amount of problems and have fixed them (if there are even that many)

  9. As we go through the game, I am positive people will be writing down suggestions on things they have notice which could use some patching. But I am confident right now, we are all excited that we could care less about minor details/errors that are present.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Patches? At your leisure. I can't quibble over a couple minor errors here or there, as I wouldn't be playing the game in the first place if it wasn't for you awesome people. So stoked, hope the beta is open....?

    1. I'll answer that question for our friends

      >The heroes of shadow<.

Sorry but the beta is closed, and as they would appreciate your
offer to help them with the testing they already have people in place for that (I know i thought the same thing EFFECIENT ^-^).
Although i do share your excitement for their patch release and hope that they reconsider the closed beta and make it an open beta to at least give us the opportunity to give something back however small it may be. Like testing for them, as it has the capability for many play through's, which in turn would give them a well deserved rest. But as it is their project i can only hope they see this post and take it into consideration as it would benefit both parties :) <3.
Enormous amount of hype build up, dammit got me saying it now
      >.<

  11. Yeah. Once all the major work is done, there's little sense in holding back the patch. Releasing it brings in hundreds of fresh eyes and will bring a lot of excitement and attention to the project. Then the team can just relax for a little while as the bug reports roll in. I guess just be sure to note at the top of the credits .txt to check back here periodically for future fixes.

  12. I think I'm getting more hyped about this than any official game release in years. (Well, except for FE Awakening) Wonder if it'll be done in time for my uni break?

Anyway, AMAZING job you guys. Always nice to see a translation group so close to finishing. (Now I'd better hurry and get mine back togeather)

  14. I would say 1-2 post release patches. Say a V1.1 not long after release to fix the more embarrassing slip-ups you quickly notice/progress breakers. With a V1.2 as a "perfectionwetiredofthisshitnow" patch.

  15. i agree with chaos angel id say only do a patch if somebody notifys
youof a glitch or something major but otherwise you guys are doing a fantastic job

    ReplyDelete
  16. IMO, the patch release coming soon should be v0.9 and any patches after that will all be v1.0 I don't see much of a reason to post frequent patch updates for 1 or two minor bugs like a certain useless characters name problems. So after the next patch take a break, go on vacation, see your spouses you've hidden from for weeks on end, you've done an amazing job, and far as I see only thing left to do is shut the entire site down once you get a C&D/job offer from Nintendo for your amazing work on this patch.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Release now please. Nobody's expecting a 100% perfection from a fan translation, and fan translations have been released less complete. Hell, Fire Emblem fan translations have been released less complete.

  18. RELEASE... RELEASE... RELEASE... RELEASE...
This wait is burning my neurons....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Get it done to your specifications, then send out the patch, and when people tell ya of major bugs or until a good bit of minor ones pop up send out a fix. Simple as that, anyway my two cents in and Shadow out.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'd say release an updated patch when you've fixed enough things that you think it warrants an update. Exactly how often that is really depends on the amount of bugs you get/fix. It'll probably be less often as time goes on, and if you stick with it long enough, eventually there won't be anything left to patch! Given how much testing and stuff you're doing, that actually sounds feasible to me. Of course, I haven't seen the code... but still, dare to dream.
tl;dr Patch releases when you think you should.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I say, polish up the patch as much as possible before releasing it, so you don't have to worry about constant updates after it's out. Y'all deserve a break. And I have a backlog to catch up on, anyway, so a later date is no problem for me.

However, on the topic of post-release patch updates, I just had this epiphany. Remember how you were struggling to decide what Tiki's nickname for My Unit should be? Well, FE Awakening is coming out soon. Tiki is in it. My Unit is in it. I bet Tiki will befriend My Unit at some point, and at some point, refer to My Unit with a pet name. You could release a patch that changes Mu-mu or whichever you picked to whatever the official translation is, if there even is one. Brilliant, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  22. That's an easy question: would the new updates prevent from playing your save games, or would they be compatible? If so, then you can launch new patches at your own pace. If applying a patch will mean to start over the game, then perhaps it is a better option to launch a more polished patch some time in the future.

Apart from that, terrific job you are doing here, looking forward to its release! Would it be too much to ask for a Spanish translation too??? Just joking! XDD

    ReplyDelete

    1. I personally would like to release the English scripts (with some extra annotation maybe) to those who ask for it so that it can be translated into other languages, but I guess it's not my call alone.

      Delete
    2. I think Blazer wanted to release the scripts and text editor to everyone (I know Nintenlord gave us the okay), but I worry his gesture is too kind. However, I have no qualms giving them to the right hands, eg. for a translation in another language.

    3. >2012
      >Making derived translations
I sure hope you guys don't do this

      Delete
    4. This is a localisation job though, so the dialogue doesn't necessarily match the original Japanese, even if the intent does. I can't even imagine how chaotic a derived translation could get.

      Delete
    5. Doesn't NOE do derived translations all the time? Apparently some of the earlier ones had their embarrassing moments.

But I guess you're right. The most we could do is give them the text editor and the fonts. I have no clue how to work the accented symbols though >__<

      Delete
  23. I'd say if you find a major bug, release a new patch with fix as soon as possible. For minor bugs, wait until more build up, or no new bugs appear for a while, then release a new patch. Or polish the patch up to perfection, then release a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd be fine with more patches, as long as downloading them won't have an effect on my progress through the game.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm excited for this translation, but I'm in no real rush to play, so I hope you guys take as long as you need and put out a quality product. In for a penny, in for a pound, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Extra patches is just fine and dandy with me ^_^
Anyway it's ultimately up to you guys for making this possible (and for that I am forever indebted to you). Just being able to play a new Fire Emblem in understandable English is what really matters to me :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. As far as I'm concerned once you release the "Final" Patch the work you all put in on the project is complete and you deserve some rest. If you're going to continue polishing the game with future patches after that it should be at your leisure as the rest of your lives shouldn't be bound to this one project. Really, once the Release Patch is done take a break and just release Polish Patches when you have the time if you find them necessary, otherwise just play the game with us and revel in what you have accomplished.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Really, I think that you guys have already done everything so, im going to be happy (real happy) even if you release the game now and make updates later since there would be tons of people that could report if there were any errors so you can fix them without wasting your time looking for them

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nothing is 100% perfect, as long as it's playable I'd like to have it as soon as possible. And you're not going to be able to make everything perfect. I'm fine with having additional patches to fix minor things.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Don't care for new patches every week, just as long as it doesn't destroy my save file.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme!!!!
Please.. no one really cares about a few bugs unless they are game breaking, so a complete patch now with a new one later if a lot of people have noticed problems.

      -1.
They want it as complete as possible at release, as do many others. To say "no one cares" is a lie. I care.
The subject of this post is not "should we release it now or later?" It's "how often should updates be released afterwards?" So really, what no one cares about (at least, no one on the staff) is your demands for an immediate release. Your demand was not asked for and is not wanted.
"Gimme gimme gimme?" You sound like a whiny three-year-old. Wait your turn and be grateful for what you get.
Jeez, is this what drove away poor Blazer? I couldn't blame him if it was. There are a million posts like this already. "Release NOW!" NO. They've said it a million times. I've said it a million times. Everyone else who actually bothers to read the other posts has said it a million times. Be quiet. TheEnd said probably November. So just wait.

      Delete
    3. Dude, chill. If you've read the updates you should know that the progress is most likely at 97% + at the moment, so the hype should be natural.
I do agree with them, the game is basically finished and some final adjustments should be done before release, releasing necessary updates along the way if 'tis actually killing someones game-experience.
I wouldn't say that he is actually demanding it, he is merely begging for it. After all, the creators still have the final word.
Flaming at them won't help, love and tolerate man.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, you're right. Sorry about that, Anon. But I HAVE said that a million times, so I guess this was built up frustration. Which is odd, because I don't really have a reason to say it at all since I'm just some other random fan, but whatever. Still, I'd rather they wait and release the shiny version in an extra week than the one with the extra layer of grime early.
And it really wasn't the question. :P

  33. The most important things have already been addressed, but I will add my opinion to the mix. I really care about the story and the dialogue (not everyone will) as much as the actual gameplay. If the story, menus, characters and items/equipment have all been translated and checked than I woulds say your mission has been completed successfully. It has been said many times on this forum that only a 'final' patch will be released but I would argue that completeness is somewhat relative. Looking forward to enjoying the translation! Thanks to everyone involved!

  34. not to be the bad one here, as im as impatient for the relase as much as everyone here, but... well the original team decided to hold the relase untill it was really finnished, and i guess they had theyr reasons for this (im not too sure of them, but i think i have an idea), on the other hand some fixes after the relase are probably unavoidable, as long as the team still wishes to continue theyr work.

so yeah... i guess ill keep waiting untill you and the rest of the team feel its trully ready, and maybe have a couple of fixes after that

  35. Uh oh. As of the latest Mintendo Direct trailer for Awakening, My Unit is now officially localized to 'Avatar'. Damn, and so close to release too!

My recommendation, do yourselves a favour and DON'T go back and change everything yet. Make that a future patch.

  36. Strive for perfection pre-release!

Most people will not come back looking for a post-release-patch, unless mayor-issues come up!

PS: Whatever you do, there will always be complains (however generous it is, that you put all that time into this without being compensated!), so just do what YOU think is best!
