While I was sitting around lazily minding my own business, TheEnd mentioned how the base conversations are now 75% complete (translation-wise). So without further ado, I think it's about time to post some more progress.
(Text not final!)

By the way, a little behind-the-scenes gossip, a certain somebody suggested that they might try their hand at translating more than just the base conversations. Dude, that's already a lot of text you've translated, but I can't exactly say "no" to the help!
Wow!!!! 75% already!!!!! =D
ReplyDeleteI guess that, at this pace, you will get the patch done in less than a half year (or at the least I hope so), it doesn't matter how many time it takes as long as the patch is finished and have a good quality.
Good job guys!!!! ;)

ReplyDeleteVincent, you silly.
ReplyDeleteSeriously TheEnd is doing an awesome job and is going at an incredible pace. Keep up the good work :)
ReplyDeletealright! good work guys. i have a question tho. i thought vergil's name was belf or something? i don't really care how the names are translated, i just remembered seeing him listed as belf on fire emblem wiki
ReplyDeleteLook here: http://www.heroesofshadow.net/2011/08/vergil-wins-with-landslide.html
ReplyDeleteJust drop by to say thanks. Big thanks from a hardcore FE fan. :)
ReplyDelete"...I got myself captured again,"
ReplyDelete"Indeed you did,"
Gee, real supportive Palla >_>
I noticed a graphics error on the bottom left image. The tail from the "g" in Virgil's name is cut off. I think you'll need to replace the g with a floated character, although I'm not sure how you'll go about doing that.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, the pace of the translation is coming along amazingly! Great work guys!
Holy fudge, 75% already? Go you!
ReplyDeleteI too noticed the "g" being cut off. Dunno if that's something you can fix, or what.
yeah IIRC 'y' does that too (though I forgot which name I saw it in), there might have been another instance where that occurs, we should be able to fix it in due time.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the worship button again?
ReplyDeleteYou people seriously rule!! Keep up the good (and hard, I bet) work! We're all right behind you XDD
ReplyDeleteI love all of this and I love all of you people for not only creating this but steadily keeping it up to date
ReplyDeleteIf you require aid in translating I have 2 years of Japanese and would love to help
Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks for the offer but I don't think 2 years is enough, no offense. Since we are aiming for a bit more of a pro translation. XP Sorry, really appreciate the offer but we are just so picky, so it's us not you XD
ReplyDeleteNo no by all means no offense taken ^^ I am very fond of translation groups that take their quality very seriously. Very much anticipating the completion of the patch, cheers!
DeleteBlazer, do you understand how much is learned in your average two-year university course...? It's fine to shun out help because you think you can get better, but it's not too intelligent to shun able help that will speed up the completion date of the project. Not to mention the fact that more experienced fans can proof the translations you are leery about.
ReplyDeletelol, I'm sorry that my standards aren't as low as yours, or that I don't want too many people working on this until I feel like it's needed. Also your comments are contradictory--someone can think they can get better help and deny help from someone who might speed up the completion date of the project. In any case, the project is going at a great speed, and it's too bad some people just seem to be greedy and want things done as fast as possible without actually doing any work themselves or truly understanding the situation/circumstances. *shrug*
DeleteThis is brillient, maybe we can create a new title for the translated version instead of a direct translation of the Japanese version (as well as have another one with the direct title translation), like what usually happens when a game gets released in other countries outside of Japan? As we know, they give them new titles, and most of the titles consist of three words. And I've got a good title for a translated version, I would call it "Fire Emblem: Regaining Shadows". Anyone else have a better title than mine? So yeah, my recommendation would be to have one that is a direct translation of the Japanese version and one that is a fan-made title. That surely would make it more like how it would be if it really was released outside of Japan. How's that sound?
ReplyDeleteI don't think fan translators should take that much liberty. Even our localization is just an effort to adapt this translation to the US version of Shadow Dragon... which is very, very far from being a literal translation.
DeleteBesides, the subtitle has a different meaning. We call it "heroes of light and shadow", but it really means "the hero of light and the hero of shadow" - a reference to Marth (the hero everyone knows) and My Unit (Marth's "shadow", doing pivotal work but forgotten by history).
Unfortunately I'm going to have to agree with TheEnd. I don't feel we're in the position to make such a change. The full title is "Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~" which is very long, but people tend to either call it "New Mystery" or "Heroes of Light and Shadow" which are both "OK" names in terms of length. In any case I don't feel like there is any reason to change the name. While "Akatsuki no Megami" (Goddess of Dawn, IIRC) became "Radiant Dawn" and "Fuuin no Tsurugi" (Sword of Seals, translated as "Sealed Sword") became "Binding Blade" we don't know the reasons for these changes and we ourselves don't have any reasons to change the name. Since the current title is sufficient, I don't think we should change it. It doesn't have the length problem (Shin Ankoku Ryuu to Hikari no Ken is what FE11 was called, IIRC, before it got localized to "Shadow Dragon") and there's no other reason to "localize" it (what would you want, Fire Emblem: Era of Heroes? War of Heroes? Just "Mystery of the Emblem"? what's the point in that?).
DeleteThink I said enough, I don't even remember what I was talking about anymore... *dies of fatigue*
Love you guys, please keep up the great work. I'm your fan :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot! I'm looking forward to the final version :)
ReplyDeleteOne thing, though. In the blue/green box that appears Vergils name looks like 'Verail' which is caused by the g not being fully shown. Is there a way to fix that, as there is some space beneath that.
Yes somebody else mentioned that above, so I'll copy/paste my answer:
ReplyDelete"yeah IIRC 'y' does that too (though I forgot which name I saw it in), there might have been another instance where that occurs, we should be able to fix it in due time."
Oops, sorry I didn't notice that before ^_^'
ReplyDeleteStill, even with those small graphical bugs it's still an amazing job you're doing and I'm very thankful for that! Keep up the good work!
lol at Palla and Est. I'm pretty sure that's a reference to Gaiden.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are doing an amazing job, keep up the good work!
