Version 3.01 out (name boxes fixed)

Once again, thanks to Prof. 9 for fixing the bug that caused "hanging" letters to get cut off in the dialogue name boxes.

I also fixed a plethora of typos and gave the "arrow to the knee" joke an arrow to the knee.

    3. I'm responsible for getting rid of "arrow to the knee." I thought "come at me bro" was fine, and I would actually argue for leaving it in if another team member brought it up.

  5. It's Arrow IN the knee, not arrow TO the knee. Anyway, good job on fixing this. But the patch requires a clean ROM, right? Which would probably kill my savestates. And I don't want to lose my actual savefiles either...

    1. Okay, I followed your instructions on transferring my savefiles, and I still can't get it to transfer.

      You say that in Desmume, save files are in the same folder as the ROM. In my version (0.9.8) they are stored in the "Battery" folder, in the same location as the emulator.

      Secondly, I have used the "Import backup memory" function succesfully in the past, but it seems my version of desmume won't accept .dsv files as input for this function, only .duc and .sav. (It defaults to "all supported types", for which .dsv files are invisible) This is really strange seeing as it reads them perfectly fine otherwise...

    2. You should be able to transfer the battery file merely by renaming it to match the new rom.

      The old savestates might not work anymore, though.

    3. Tried that, didn't work.

      Here's the name of the new rom:
      5096 - Fire Emblem - Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (v01)(DSi Enhanced) (E2)(SUXX).nds

      And here's what I renamed the save file to:
      5096 - Fire Emblem - Shin Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (v01)(DSi Enhanced) (E2)(SUXX).dsv

      The savefile is in the "Battery" folder like the others.

      What am I doing wrong?

    4. I don't know, it's really straightforward
      Get clean rom, patch, copy and rename (or just rename) your old battery save... and that's it

    6. If you mean "import backup memory", it won't take .dsv files for some reason.

      I would try replacing the old ROM with the new one then renaming the save, but I'm terrified of losing my save. I'm in the middle of an LP right now and I REALLY don't want to start over.

    7. How about you make a back-up and stick that in a different folder, then try your solution.

    8. Try exporting your old save using Desmume, then importing it.

      I renamed my dsv file and it worked fine for me ^^

    1. Play as a female then. You can't select a Myrmidon as a male even if you're beaten the game on Lunatic reverse.

  9. If the arrow in the knee thing is a deliberate pop culture reference by the game designers then why is it being removed? Why does the geek angst over a tired meme take precedence over the original intention of the game designers?

    1. It's a passing joke we added. We have a couple of these in the game, but apparently this particular joke was too "pop culture".

      If you wonder why we add jokes, sometimes they're there to replace Japanese jokes that don't translate or to add some extra flavour.

    1. Prof. 9 supplied up with a simple assembly hack (one byte change) that raised all the names up by 2 pixels. Of course, it would take great skill to figure that out : P

It's easier to just do this: download the usrcheat.dat (or whatever .dat file you use) from gbatemp or codemasters-project, open it in R4CCE, find this game on the list, click on the [...] button next to the game ID, find your patched ROM of this game and click it. It'll automatically fill in the correct game ID.

    2. Do you even know what R4CCE is? It's just a program for editing the .dat file, it has nothing to do with whether or not you're using an R4. I use a Supercard DSTWO and still use R4CCE to edit my usrcheat.dat.

  14. Can a female myrmidon later be changed to a draco knight?

    If not then what class should I choose if I want to make My Unit into a draco knight/wyvern

    1. Yeah, female Myrmidon can be a Dracoknight, but only after they've promoted. Before that, they can be a Pegasus Knight.

  16. i love the translation but have a mac and emulation is so slow on desmume. already at ch6 so i want to keep playing on desmume. any advice?

    1. Yes, sell your Mac and buy a proper PC.

    3. Change from desmume and use a different emulator or, if you want the 'original experience' which IMO is better, use a flashcart.

      You can use http://saves.uniquegeeks.net/index/page.aspx?id=7 to change the filetype of the save file

    4. If your mac is fairly new, you can run Boot Camp and just install a Windows partition on it, and run an emulator on that side.

    4. The Skyrim meme was removed. Honestly, there aren't that many memes, and in my opinion, as someone who HATES the misuse of internet memes, the ones that remain are subtle and tasteful. Are there any specific lines you'd like to call out?

    I know it's a bit annoying but, would that be possible to give a patched rom? That's not because I don't know how to patch it, that's because I am using Linux. By the look of it you are using some .bat and stuff.

    So it would be great if someone can do this.

    1. Unfortunately not; doing so would be very illegal and could earn us a C&D letter at the least which wouldn't be very nice. If you're desperate, head down to your local library or something with all the stuff on a USB drive and patch it there :) or just borrow a PC from a friend! In this day and age you'd be hard-pressed to not find a PC somewhere. Or so I'd hope.

  31. Done with my first playthrough, I did it on Hard (to unlock the class merge thingy) and was surprised of the difficulty of it! I had no good mage by the time I got to Gharnef (which meant I had no way of killing him and getting Falchion) so I got to use Warp to sacrifice one of my units to lure him away from the throne and then warping Marth up there to seize XD

    Now I'm collect all the support convos, the one between Fem!MU and several characters is bucking amazing :P Especially the ones with Roger and Feena, almost died of laughter reading, I cannot wait to read the rest of them! I applaud you, Heroes of Shadow, for this incredible translation.

    I've seen the great work they have done this great game translated into English and I would like to translate this game into Spanish with your help basing on your translations. I wonder if I could use the same tool that you have used you to extract the text and translate information.
    I wish this game could also be enjoyed by people that their language is Spanish and are fire embled players and I would like to make this game get to play them.
    Whenever you can translate it into Spanish with your help give you the information and publishes all the time people give me your support and I also like to leave your Spanish translation to start with the heroes of shadow name so people can see your job.
    Hopefully I hope someone can help me and give me the tools to translate this game for the Spanish people and who can play a lot more people.
