You can either click on the redirect page above I made using my terrible website design skills or just click here to go the new forums we added after a polling/some people poking us. Do read the rules but otherwise be active and go crazy. If you wish to talk about anything to better the forums, please post it in the forums themselves.
Note that the majority of updates etc. will still go on here. The forums are just for discussing the game we're translating (stats and tiers and all), translation progress, translation conventions etc/debating names etc., and other limited discussion for Fire Emblem fans in general. It is an addition to, not a substitute or replacement for, the blog. I figured I'd get this question and I answered it just now, so be sure not to ask it again unless it's a joke. ;)

ReplyDeleteYou know your commenting area has just gotten out of hand when people start racing to be the first comment
DeleteGoing through all the terms and rules in the reg.form is a headache :(
ReplyDeleteI don't know, if it's just me, but the BBCode in the Forum's Rules & Guidelines doesn't seem to work. The commands are simply shown in plain text.
ReplyDeleteOther than that... Nice touch to the Translation-Project!
^^lol just skim them they're mostly the same as any other decent forum
ReplyDelete@Anon I didn't notice that I'll check it out thanks...
Holy crap this is great news! Thanks you so much for the forum and for doing this amazing translation project!!!
ReplyDelete@Blazer: Hi there, for some reason, me and Ramoth seem to be having problems with the email-validation-process. We both don't receive any Validation-emails.
ReplyDeleteBut we were able to pinpoint the source of the problem to be our Email-provider (gmx.net), by having a short conversation via the forum's shoutbox.
I thought, that this might be the problem, because another forum I was affiliated with, had similar problems with specific Emailproviders. And Ramoth kinda verified my assumption.
Don't know how they solved it, though.
Maybe it'll help to sort this problem out, maybe it doesn't...
Anywho... thanks for your time, reading this :P
Well, I just now registered. I'll be using them.
ReplyDelete@Yachiru I believe that there is nothing that I can do on my part for this. It's possible your e-mail provider just blocks these types of e-mails, or maybe puts them in a spam or junk folder or something. I can't turn off validation as that allows the registration of bots, and the only other validation method is manual validation, which I do not have time to keep up with, sadly.
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm not sure if this issue has been addressed yet, but I'm going to ask anyway. Whenever I try to drag the ROM into the translation patch folder, it won't let me. I can drag the icon over the folder where the patch will highlight as if it's an option, but when I drop it, it won't work. Likewise, whenever I take "DRAG ROM HERE" file out of the translation patch folder to get the ROM to it, it won't even be highlighted. Please help as quickly as possible.
ReplyDeleteyou don't take the "DRAG ROM HERE" file out, if you do it won't work. -__- you take the ROM and drag the ROM (I wish I could like, bold font the word "ROM", or capitalize it, but there's no bold option and it's already capitalized >____>) onto the file called "DRAG ROM HERE". In other words, it sounds like you have things mixed up.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I TRIED to do, but like I said, it won't let me drag the ROM into the folder where the DRAG ROM HERE file was. I didn't think taking it out would work, but it was kind of a the only other thing I could think of.
ReplyDeleteHow about you copy the rom into the folder first and THEN drag it?
ReplyDeleteuh, I've never heard of not being able to drag a file into a folder. so, your computer must suck. a lot. >_>
ReplyDeletehow old r u guys out of curiousity? My friend told me that u were high schoolers and we're still having an argument about how theres no way that u could find this much of teenagers with experience in programming and the free time to do this
ReplyDeleteSorry for being nosy btw and Im really grateful that u guys r doing this translation
15-28. I know Vincent, NTG, Nintenlord, Martze and I aren't high schoolers anymore, at least.
Deletewe're all different ages, but what TheEnd said is pretty true. I'm the youngest on the team, or so I say, at 17. I could be lying. Zak, Arch, and Snow, who all retired, were also out of high school. In terms of localizers, I believe Illumio is the only one in high school, but I don't remember. Ryan might be too. I think Pandorakun and Vi are out of high school, and as TheEnd said, Martze is out. Is that about good?
DeleteI'm almost out of high school actually. Less than a month to go before I graduate. I think I'm a bit older than Blazer, and definitely more so than Illumio, but yeah.
Deletewell, me too, but I'm one of the youngest in my grade. I'll still be 17 a month after I graduate. ^_^
DeleteYou guys are too young
DeleteMy computer is fine. Most likely it's your folder that's the problem. You should probably try treating people with respect other than being an asshole and assuming it's OUR fault and not yours. @Pleiades: I was able to get the ROM into the folder that way, but it still won't let me drag the into the "DRAG ROM HERE" file.
ReplyDelete@ other Anon: Are both the ROM and folder extracted?
ReplyDeleteDoes the ROM meet the specs listed in the patching instructions?
What type of OS are you using? If Windows Vista/7, you might need to be an admin to run the batch (though I doubt it).
Oh, and Blazer insulted your computer, not you. So if anyone's not treating someone with respect, it's you to him, not the other way around.
@Blazer or someone else on the team: What would you estimate the probability of the patch being done by each member of the team's respective spring breaks? You don't have to answer this if you feel the question is the same as "when will the patch be finished?", but the answer gives no obligation of the team needing to finish by that point, which I presume is the reason the team refuses to answer the when question.
I don't really understand the question, but uh, maybe this will answer it anyway: I doubt this translation will be done by spring break. We still have a lot of work to do. We're mainly doing the bulk work right now, which is why there aren't many updates--we're translating the main game and working on the bulk graphics and other things. The extra/small things are pretty much done, with a few exceptions. The bulk work will take a lot of time, though. Don't take my word for it but this game might come out like, one year from now, tbh... sad, but we're not a professional group, and despite how fast we are compared to -some- fan translations, we're still not substitutes for the real things.
DeleteThat answer was quite sufficient, Thank you!
DeleteGiven that every other person who's patched the rom has been able to DRAG ROM HERE, I honestly can't see how the problem isn't on your end.
ReplyDeleteHe shouldn't be insulting anything of mine regardless. If a shoe salesman is trying to sell shoes to someone, but the shoes the person is putting on don't fit, the salesman doesn't insult his feet and say it's my fault. My main problem with him is that he hasn't tried to help me at all and just treated me like an idiot and acting as if I don't know what I'm doing. At least you and Pleiadas TRIED to help. @Pando: Well, considering this is the first time this has ever happened to me on ANY computer I've used, it seems pretty likely that it's his fault. And how do you know I'm the only one with this problem? Are you in contact with everyone that has downloaded the demo? Not everyone on the Internet is as vocal as I am.
ReplyDeleteTranslation. Not demo.
ReplyDelete@Blazer
ReplyDeleteHey, keep up the good work :) Just finished playing your "Universe Rebellion" (the version that ends at the end of Bern)...just wondering if you have any idea when the next version will be available. :D
*Tactics Universe, TU has a release date set for July 7th, 2012, though with everything happening in my life right now I keep doubting that haha. One thing though, try to keep the conversation limited to the translation project, if possible. You can google the project name and it has its own blog if you want to comment on that, but it's not fair to the others to talk about personal projects here. :P
DeleteFair enough :) Just wanted to check, and since I didn't know where else to contact you... *shrug*. :) (Just so you know, I am really enjoying it :) )
Deletehah alright. thanks.
Delete@Anon (you know, who you are): Neither Blazer, nor anyone else on the team is obligated to do anything. he isn't trying to sell anything, he/they sacrifice their own free-time in order to do all of the non-japanese FE-community a favor...
ReplyDeleteif it doesn't work for you, ask nicely, and more importantly stay nice, when you don't get the answers you hoped for at first (or at all, for that matter)... Help us/them to help you and describe your problem more precisely. OS/Rom-version/Patch-Verion/whatever, instead of insulting people of insulting you.
Or you could "just" translate the game yourself...
I did try to help you. But the truth is, I've never heard of any problem even remotely similar to what you've mentioned. Furthermore, I don't see how the things I do in this project could affect something like copying/pasting/dragging files, since those tend to be integrated into an OS through things like "Windows Explorer" and "Finder". Since I'm not a computer expert and I can't see what you're doing on your computer, I can only guess at what you're doing based off of the clues you've given me, I can't really figure out the problem. Given it's generally confusing nature and the fact that I can't explain it, I decided on the only other conclusion I could think of: something is wrong with your computer, something that I can't comprehend. Sadly, no one else has contacted me about such a problem--and I get a lot of e-mails, comments, forum posts, youtube comments, etc. about this.
ReplyDelete"You should probably try treating people with respect other than being an asshole and assuming it's OUR fault and not yours."
- I'm not assuming it's your fault, I reasoned out that the source of the problem has something to do with something I'm unaware of, and I know the least about you and your computer, and a lot more about the patch I made and the programs in it.
Come to think of it though, I kind of assumed you had Windows. Do you have a MAC? If so, that may very well be the problem right there. I don't have a way of supporting mac computers, right now. While Mac support for things is getting better, I think most Mac users should be used to this given that that's just how things are: more obscure programs tend to have Windows support, not Mac support, or at least they have Win support first, followed by a Mac port after. In the future I plan to find some way that anyone can play the patch but right now that's not my priority.
In any case, I do believe you've been a bit harsh on me, but the situation is what it is. I don't know the problem and I don't have any leads. Furthermore, I've never encountered this problem before, and what changes between each person who plays the patch is not the patch, but the person who plays it and the computer they use; thus it's more likely to attribute a change to the variable, not the constant. I wasn't simply assuming it was you or your computer's fault, I was reasoning it. If you still take offense to that understanding everything, then that's fine, but I think that only speaks about your own attitude, doesn't it? *shrug*
beautiful way to end a misundertanding blazer *APPLAUSE*
Deletebtw I'm not the same anonymous ^^
I wonder if you can now give an approximate date of release of the patch ...?
ReplyDeleteno. sadly. I wish I could, then answering these kinda questions would be really easy.
Deleteanyway it was easy to say "no".
ReplyDeleteahahahahaha, you got me there. I guess I could just say "no" or "I don't know" but I feel like that's just pushing you away and making an excuse to get away from the question instead of giving you a sufficient answer. That's my fault though, isn't it? XP
Deletedo not worry, I was just bothering the "always winning" blazer. :)
Deleteoh, I'm not worried, and I rarely win, trust me. I think it's only because I try so hard to win at the things I do that it seems like I win all the time, but really I fail at almost everything I do XD
DeleteIs their any chance that the translation might be ready this week.
ReplyDeletedid you just seriously ask that? never mind
Delete-1% chance
Delete(Yes, that's a negative)
I checked the progress page, and. whew! it looks like you guys are almost done! so excited!
ReplyDelete>Note 2: Percents reflect raw translation, not verification. Separate verification progress bar will be added when that is the only thing left to do.
Deletewhat do you mean by that ?
Delete^because if we add any more progress bars, we'd be spending more time updating the progress page than actually working on the translation ^_^
DeleteJust to know, from novice to legende how hard is translating.
ReplyDeleteDifficulty: Moderate to Expert depending on material to be translated
DeleteTime consumed: Insanity, always
translating is difficult. It's a thought-process. There's no exact system to translating things, really. A lot of it is intuitive. That's why computer translators won't be able to translate on the level that humans can for a while, IMO. Even then, things can be translated multiple ways. The time it takes depends on the person and their experience. Sometimes, more experience means faster because they don't have to think as hard. Other times, more experience means slower because they're more picky about how they translate things, and can't decide. Thus it depends on the person.
DeleteAt least, that's what I know of in general. I can't speak too much about Japanese specifically.
As for the hacking, well, if novice is using a computer, and expert is programming at an extremely high level for some huge company, I'd say the level of hacking I'm doing is between "novice" and "moderate" and the level of hacking that the people who made the programs are doing and that Nagato (who helps with bigger hacks) are doing is maybe moderate. Yes, most of you could probably do the same things I do if you simply took a class to learn how, despite the lack of intelligence some of you exhibit (no specifics, and no offense). It's just that no said class exists so everything is pretty much self-taught, with rare exceptions. That's the main problem/obstacle in hacking, I suppose.
Yes, I must give detailed answers at all costs. XP
You always play hard, Blazer. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen is the next update...
ReplyDeleteAs soon as you stop asking for it. Then wait another 12 years, because if you bug the team any more, they'll probably delay the release out of spite (that's what I'd do, anyway).
Deleteyes... time for a new post.
ReplyDeleteWe have absolutely nothing to post about right now.
ReplyDeleteOn that note, I don't think we make a good enough effort to show you guys how busy we are. ._. I've hardly had time to do basic things in life, nevermind hack...

Um Blazer kind of wondering when did this project begin? I just want to know to see how long it takes to translate a game when the translation is complete
ReplyDeleteGo back through the blog's archives and you can see for yourself. o.o
Delete^^that, I originally started the solo project like right after the game was released, but never really started translating it until uh, idk, like a year after?
DeleteIt pains me waiting for things like this waiting to get done....along with new metroid games. But its worth the wait :]
ReplyDeleteHope everything's going well with the team! Can't wait for the next progress update. :)
ReplyDeleteYou guys are awesome... I can't thank you enough for all the effort put in this kind of project.
ReplyDeleteEven though my limited knowledge prevents me from helping, I would like to let you know that your hard work is greatly appreciated!
Best regards to the entire staff!
I was wondering. Are you planning on translation the DL chapters like "Wind and Thunder" "and "Assassins" Sorry if I missed anything. It's just that I didnt see or hear of any news about it.
ReplyDeleteYes, last I checked they are already translated. Though I haven't actually been paying much attention to the project so don't take my word for it >_> *waits for TheEnd or someone to confirm translation status*
ReplyDeleteYes, they have been translated.
