I think I only made significant edits to 3 files: the Item, Menu, and System files. Just patch over a clean ROM, extract those files, then put'm in the unpack for your hacked ROM, repack your ROM, and that should do it.
oh yeah.... you can use Slv. [Weapon], Brv. [Weapon], Stl. [Weapon], ect... for weapon names (Like FE:SD did for some items)and also...im pretty sure you CAN type in full class names... not really impacting gameplay, it just bugs me lol.
oh...you missed 1 boss's name lol. (The one from the level where you recruit the members of wolfguard)...it wouldn't impact most people...but it bugs me because I USE that unit lol...
and Clain should be Kliene (Yes, the 'e' makes it different from a ♂'s name) and dragon classes should be M. Dragon, E. Dragon, ect... not Mage Drg... ok im done pointing out mistakes that bug me.
I prefer to abbreviate the latter part, for whatever reason.
A few enemy names weren't translated because I couldn't translation them. Also i was originally Kleine and then I got a complaint and changed it and now you want me to change it back? >_>
Aaaaand I can't make a perfect patch that doesn't bug you, SWD. I guess if you don't like it, don't use it? Sorry bud. :(
P.S. I didn't want to repoint every class name that couldn't fit and some names (Dragon Knight) can't be put because the game doesn't like class names with too many characters (which is a game limitation, not my fault).
if you can provide me with the tools i can help...
i've done quite a few complete game rewrites for FE:SD and my fix for FE3:DS. (I had to repoint basically everything in the game after inserting the 12 missing files and enlarging palletes for blue team barbarians, emporers, and soldiers)
inserting files and having the game run normally is almost as hard as making a wii game with the revolution sdk.
of course you always could enlarge the rom and have the arm9 file point class names to the enlarged section...
I also tried to hack this game. I used Ndstool to decompile the game, then looked at the script in the mm Folder. I was able to edit the text after decompressed the files using Nintenlord's utility.
But I have one question, which soft do you use to view and edit the font?
Wow ... people can be really "duh". He just said he doesn't want to continue the translation, and one posts if he's going to continue, and then there's this one who asks how to download the patch when there's clearly a "Download" tab up there :x
Anyway, great job with the translation, mate. I hope you had some fun while doing it, a shame you won't finish it, but we appreciate your efforts, nonetheless.
"But I have one question, which soft do you use to view and edit the font? "
@Anonymous who said this, I don't have any program. I have some other tricks to figuring out what is what, and I get the Japanese from the game if necessary. Also, I am not going to continue the translation, unfortunately. I am waiting for an official, complete release, just like everyone else. =P
@Weiz yes it's funny how people can be "silly" sometimes (to put it lightly). Thanks for the compliment. As much as I want to finish it, it's just not a one-man job that is worth doing when Intelligent Systems should do it theirself, ya know?
@John I'm sorry, but I have discontinued this project, meaning the translation is no longer in progress. Hopefully Nintendo/Intelligent Systems will release an English one soon...
I know its been at least a year since you did this but I still have to ask for my personal reasons:What hacking tools did you use to translate the text?I want to work on a patch as well, but only for practice.
Ok, so this will sound dumb, but I just downloaded the patch and I have NO idea how to implement the English patch. I have almost no technological coding background, so can someone help and walk me through it? I'd be much obliged...LOOOVEE THE SERIES!
GOOD JOB!!
ReplyDelete1 request: Can you also include JUST the text files in a download? as you know, i use an edited rom so patching doesn't exactly work for me.

I haven't tried so i wouldn't know for sure

ReplyDeletedoes it a full translation?
ReplyDeleteNo. Not even close, lol. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteR you going to continue the translation? Or do you know where I can download in English?
