Online functions...?
A couple of things are going on behind the scenes, including somebody undergoing a gruelling ordeal from TheEnd. Meanwhile I'm busy playing Skyward Sword... Er, and working on the online text.
Which brings me to an important question. I'd like to know, is anybody actually planning on using the online functions (eg. multiplayer battles, online shop, loaning units, etc.) in conjunction with the translation patch? You can send a response by voting in the latest poll (to the top right) and/or by replying to this post.
I haven't looked up the state of DS emulation, but I have doubts that online support is well supported and I'm not sure how many people have a flashcard to play the patch on an actual DS system.

I'd use it if it was included, i wouldn't miss it if it wasn't though.
ReplyDelete"I'm not sure how many people have a flashcard to play the patch on an actual DS system."
Many people, including me.
I will probably only use the online shop, but since I'll play it on a flashcard anyway I guess my voice won't be that important...
ReplyDeleteI play on a flash cart and sometimes play Wi-fi on midnight. There usually some Jappanese players specially on weekends
ReplyDeleteSilly Vincent.
ReplyDeleteAs Quirino sayd, I'm only will use the online shop function. By the way, almost all the flashcards supports WiFi & Online functions, included my Old R4 Original :p
ReplyDeleteFinally followed your site and well no I won't be using the internet and I have no flash card.
ReplyDeleteAs long as I can have access to the downloadable items and chapters (translated, which are think are gotten online. im hoping they will be given with the patch) then im happy. online battling and such doesnt matter to me.
ReplyDeleteI have a flashcart and I would play the game online. And yes, flashcarts do have online capability, however computer emulators don't.
ReplyDeleteHowever it does bring up the need for the patch to be stalled if online capability has to come in; we have to translate and proof the downloadable maps as well.
Well there're pros and cons to this situation.
A lot of people (myself included) will benefit a lot from the online shop especially since its possible to buy multiple unique weapons from the shop that is only possible to get once or twice in the normal game
ReplyDeleteI have a flashcart, but no one to really play with... thanks to my timezone. I'd use the shop, but yeah, it depends.
ReplyDeleteAs Illumio said, it does increase the amount of work everyone will have to do, though.
I have a flashcard, however unless a 3DS can actually connect to our internet (Witch the DS cant :() i would be sitting outside to even get into the shop :(
ReplyDeleteThere actually is at least one emulator that it capable of going online. Haven't used it myself, but still, The more you know.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to attempt to translate everything within our capability regardless of how much it is used but there are other things to worry about besides just translating...
ReplyDeleteI personally will try and use the online stuff given that 1) I'm probably going to have to test it at some point being on the team and 2) think it'll be fun :D
I wont care for the wi-fi functions. Multiplayer battle? doubt anyone is ever gonna going to use that. Online shop? does it have some special items to offer? if so, i would consider to use it cause im a collector guy. Otherwise, i wouldn't care. Loaning units? same as with the online shop.
ReplyDeletePersonally, i dont think it's worth bothering implementing the wi-fi function. Just get the translation done. ^^
At this point, I expect people would be happy just to be able to play the main story in english. For me that would be enough.
ReplyDeleteI won't use online persay, but I do really want the BS FE chapters and the downloadable ones translated. I'm hoping those are included with the patch, so we won't have to download them.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely use the online shop! I used it extensively in shadow dragon and loved it! I NEVER did a wi-fi battle, so don't care about that. So please translate the online shop! And thanks for all your efforts! Can't wait for it to be finished! :-)
ReplyDeleteWell I have it on a flash cart myself because it is easier to play for the time being. I however have yet to use the online functions.
ReplyDeleteDunno about the multiplayer, but I would be using the online shop. 'cause it is very useful. So please, if you want to save time, just the online shop would be nice :D
ReplyDeleteI will if you guys are willing to translate it. It's no huge loss in my opinion, but it'd be nice to have it.
ReplyDeleteI do want the online shop, but it would be more convenient if it were an offline shop, if it's easier for you to hack it that way.
ReplyDeleteI do think some people have jumped to the conclusion that this is a question of "whether or not to translate it" which Vincent's post never said--it just asked if people would use it. :P Stick to the question :D
ReplyDeleteHow does this take so long, my friend translated it to english by january 2011
ReplyDeleteWell if your friend is so damn good, why doesn't he make his fully translated copy available? Perhaps because, oh, I dunno, he didn't? I seriously doubt that one person could have done it so quickly when a whole team of people are still in the early stages (though I could be rong about where you guys are).
ReplyDeleteYeah, don't worry, I'll still be translating all the online-related text (and I think I've done it all actually, just need somebody to test it). Although there may be one part that I'll have to leave untranslated, but there's a good reason for that and you won't be missing out on anything.
ReplyDelete@last Anonymous
Do you have any proof to back your statement? If somebody else really was capable and willing to translate the game, why haven't they posted any progress online?
In any case, there are good reasons why we're taking our time with the translation, but I'd rather not discuss them.
Good things come to those who wait. In this case, a quality translation. So Anonymous, go away if you can't be patient.
ReplyDeleteBesides, if your friend really translated it, you'd be playing it right now instead of getting pissy at this team. GTFO
My main concern is whether or not Nintendo will be able to find out if you log onto Nintendo WiFi Connection from a ROM. Also, a 3DS can block you from WiFi if you have a hacked game (pretty sure a ROM with a translation patch counts as hacked).
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI've had people tell me they can access the Wi-Fi features with the translation patch, so it shouldn't be an issue hopefully.
Japanese people on Wi-Fi might be "WTF" when they see your My Unit have English letters in their name though.
