Graphics with a vengeance

Aveyn Knight

I have won in the battle against the dictionary and tutorial graphics and defeated the nefarious One Image with Multiple Palettes. It was a long and tiresome battle and my work is far from over as I have to rebuild fallen nations, but at least no more mage girls will have to suffer again.

Anyway, see you soon, if the next battle doesn't kill me.

  2. All was well and good, until some careless dope knocked over the Sealed Graphics Garbler in a Can, and the land was again awash in ugly static.

No rest for the weary, warrior. Back to verk!

  3. If you search "Fire Emblem 12" on Google, this gets the first page.

  9. Thank you for making this translation! :-) The first fire emblem I played was Sacred stones and I've been a fan ever since. I'm SO glad I'll be able to play this game and i'm PISSED that Nintendo dissed us by keeping it in Japanese. Thanks again!

  13. I wish I actually had any ability to help with this. Sadly the last technical thing I tried to work on managed to scramble my hard drive :D
So I'm doing everyone a favor by not participating, and instead praying for your GREAT SUCCESS.
    >_<

  14. I know this is kind of late, but couldn't u guys just open-source the images and text that needed to be translated and have people submit their thing to an email or something like that? Then, you guys would have much less work as you would just need to polish it to keep the translations consistent and check the accuracy of things. Less work = game translated one year ago.

    1. nope

we need quality control and thus we'd *like* to minimize the amount of people who work on this. Furthermore most people don't have the ability to properly work on these graphics and we don't want to hurt people's feelings by saying "you did it wrong", "you screwed up the image", "it doesn't look good", etc.

There's also the matter of waiting on people to do it and wasting time waiting when people say they'll do it, having multiple people do the same image if we just leave it open, trying to answer questions when people try to do it... overall the process is much more easier to manage with someone who is dedicated to do their job, even if they can't allocate the same amount of time as multiple people could. Ultimately, we'd still be doing a lot of work, it'd just be more spread out and there'd be a lot of potential for drama. :\

...Also, the translation was just getting started one year ago, so that's a huge stretch... >_>'

    2. Not the same anon by the way.
But us emailing you the graphics is quality control. All we want to do is help speed up that finish date so we could care less if you call most of our submissions crap. Just so as long as one person sends something usable, the due date comes sooner.
Hell, you can even put up discretion: "Don't send us your work if you aren't ready to be possibly rejected". Butthurt is a small price to pay. Besides, in the end, that butthurt person will probably play the game when its completed anyways. They could care less.

    3. The proper phrase is "couldn't care less"

      Also since it wasn't clear

"Furthermore most people don't have the ability to properly work on these graphics"

as in there are certain restrictions hacking-wise and we have to worry about those and it's hard to know if an image will work right in-game until you, well, insert it in-game. in the end having to sort out through all those images is just more time-consuming and more-work; furthermore, dealing with the INEVITABLE drama regarding it, no matter what we try to say to prevent that, is annoying, and most of us if not all of us on the translation team hate drama. In the end, it'd likely slow us down and decrease the general quality by method of inconsistency; furthermore, we'd have more "entries" for the more "fun" graphics and less for the "other ones". we can't deal with people's whims etc.

This is not something you think about for 5-10 minutes and go ahead with. I thought the methods this translation would use a long time ago, and I thought long and hard, looking at official translations and other fan translations, both the successful ones and failed ones. The successful ones had a dedicated team of members like we do here [s]minus me since I'm guilty of being dedicated to other stuff right now[/s]. The failures, simply put, didn't.

And that's all I have to say on the matter, I simply wanted to explain the decision so no one thinks it was one made without good reason; the only way to know which method is truly better is to do both under the exact same circumstances but that's impossible, but given the pros and cons of each, I think we chose the right one. /rant

    4. Just to prove Blazer: Look at the time he took just answering at the possibilities of an open working field :P

I believe the right approach is the one they have currently. I know both of you anon just want to help and we all appreciate the gesture but it's just not the way to go.

      ->Another Anon :D

  15. What I'm really curious about is what image had multiple palettes?

  16. Make sure you equip the strongest armor and weapon you have before you going into the battle so you won't get killed =P

    1. Unless the graphics have a Hammer. Then do not equip your strongest armor, as it could actually end up killing you.

    2. Then you should replace your weapon with an axe slayer, which should cancel out everything.
