Not-so-cryptic post

TheEnd

Some of you might remember this screenshot:

It's still valid - both the font glitch and the lack of available hackers to take care of it. Your comments about this matter can come in three flavors:

1. A patch that doesn't have a clean name box is a patch I won't recognize.
2. It can't be helped.
3. I can help with that.

(No, beta testing hasn't started yet; it's mostly out of my hands at the moment.)

  2. I'm probably just unobservant, but I don't see a problem with the name box. Unless the box is supposed to have a different color, I don't see what is wrong with it.

    1. Jagen's name is slightly cut off

Despite that I don't think it's terribly vital. I'd recognize the patch as valid either way.

  3. Minor detail that you don't need to worry about in my opinion, especially is it delays the patch release. If it bothers you that much than go back and release an updated version of the patch after the main release.

  4. Honestly, I'd never really have noticed the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I didn't even realize it until you gave us the first option. I don't think most others will, either. I don't think people tend to look at the nameboxes, I think they look at the actual text the character is saying.

  6. To me, it isn't that big of a deal, we all know what it says and who's name it is.
Please just release an updated patch that isn't just menus...

  7. Really didn't notice it til I looked for a few minutes, but I think it's fine, Jagen's name will just be off for a few minutes before I kill him cause he's a prepromoted unit that nobody uses.

    1. Don't worry he's not even playable in this game lol

  8. For me at least, it's not a big deal.
It took me a bit to even notice it.

  9. Minor detail that doesn't matter! definately option 2.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Not that big of a deal IMHO

  11. If it can't be helped it can't be helped. I would prefer it to be fixed but there's not a damn thing I can do to help since I don't understand the first thing about the issue let alone fixing it. But it most certainly would not stop me from playing and enjoying the translation since I am rather desperate to play this and be able to understand stuff. And it's just the name boxes right? So no biggie.

  12. i honestly didnt even notice at first glance... i dont see it as that big of a deal.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Like others, I really didn't notice until it was pointed out...
I won't mind if the final patch has that glitch, but I still do hope that someone comes along to help out. :3

  14. Is it just Jagen's name? if so then it's really not a big deal, if it's a couple characters then it'll be a bit annoying but not game breakingly so. I can deal with it easily if it means I can play this game is english

  15. The character speaking at the moment is highlighted and I'm sure it will be easy enough to memorize the names through dialogue. Seems like a very minor issue that can be overlooked by most. If it's that much of an issue, release a way for the people anal about the names to fix it themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  16. You can still tell what their name is, and this doesn't impact anything major at all. This is very much a minor issue, a mild annoyance at most. I don't think anyone whose opinion is worth considering will particularly mind.

So I'd say you should go on ahead and ignore this problem.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't mind either way, but perhaps you could change all the names to all caps if it bothers people.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. this wouldn't be a very nice solution as it'd appear like that not only in the name boxes, but everywhere else that isn't dialog, IIRC :| (think menus, battle preps, probably stuff like endings too, if this game even has character endings, I haven't beaten it before so I don't remember lol)

    1. I'm a regular (well, as much as time allows for, anyway) on RHDN and GBATemp and no one seems to be able to help, sadly--don't blame'm, fixing this is an investment in time with little payback except some appreciation (if they at least liked the game itself, they'd have a LITTLE more incentive to help, but finding someone who CAN help and WANTS to help is like trying to find a girl who's sexy, kind, and not already taken).

  19. I don't see a problem, it's not like you don't know who he is and that there's an "a," that's supposed to be there. It's fine with me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's not important in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not important, as long i can read the text in English. Minor glitch in the span of things.

    ReplyDelete
  22. it can't be helped. unless you wanna make the text box bigger or something, it seems like the name would either go over or get cut off. 'course, i'm no expert, so yeah.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. actually one of the theoretical solutions was to make the area that the text can be in larger, thus letting the letters go beneath the text box: it'd go out of the intended range, yes, but at least it wouldn't get cut-off. Sadly I'm not good enough to do this nor do I have enough time to even begin to try ;( but good suggestion!

      Delete
  23. I could've helped with that two years ago but i've since forgotten almost everythin I know so it can't really be helped.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is it just the name box with this glitch or does it occur in other places as well?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would prefer if you released a patch now, and released a newer version of the patch if you decide to fix the name box problem.

    ReplyDelete
  26. im still not expecting a patch til november 27th seeing as theyre making sure everything is 120% right then doing beta testing which is cool but any later than the 27th is just ridiculous

alternatively, go enjoy the sunshine like i keep telling you crazy anons it's kind of nicer than playing video games all day

  27. If this is really going to be a major concern and a character who isn't a waste of pixels might be damaged, you could try to fix it... I've only run into this once before and if I recall correctly, I ended up having to change the CSS code to increase line height and decrease font size, in mine I had to go from 15px to 1.4em unfortunately I doubt this helps any with the game since the issue is a visual problem, and I'm very unfamiliar with modifying images of this sort, as I stick prominently to programming work in the business sector which despite my many requests my boss says does not include video games :'(

    1. rofl yeah if you think about it from a web-design perspective that sounds nice, what could potentially be the problem here though is actually layers: if the bottom part of the name box has a higher layer priority than the rest of it, it might be blocking our SIGHT of the rest of the letter "g", for instance, when in actuality, said "g" IS there, it's just behind the other graphics. I could do some tests to quickly find this out and changing priority is just a matter of changing one or two bytes in the assembly (programming) but technically speaking I'm off the team and that's because I don't actually have the time to do this >_<'

    2. On a side note off something someone else mentioned, provided it wouldn't be an extreme amount of hacking, would it be possible to just hack the English version of FE SD, and steal their coding for Jagen's name? Again, decades of business exp, 0 game design knowledge. <3

  28. truthfully, I don't know what the problem is, but it isn't a big deal

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's not nearly a big enough deal to me that I'd have the final release delayed to fix it.

I hardly even recognized the problem in the screencaps; I doubt it would be an issue while playing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I would barely notice, please don't delay the patch for something like this.

    ReplyDelete
  31. post this at romhacking.net,not where the desperate are.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Although it should be fixed eventually, I don't think this glitch is big enough too delay the patch. I recommend releasing the patch with the glitch, then, once you've fixed it, making an updated version of the patch. Like "Version 1.0" and "Version 1.1."

Also, some of the pics on the screenshots page show the conversation on the bottom screen so couldn't you just look there to see what their name is anyways?

  38. I was searching through the GBA section of a small game shop in New Zealand as a tiny 10 year old gaming rookie, when the guy at the counter showed me a beat up second hand cartridge with a faded picture of a crossed axe and sword and the words "fire emblem" on the front.. being a pokemon fan, I was hesitant when the shop assistant showed me its turn-based style. However, I bought the game, and, needless to say, barely slept for the next 72 hours! As a handheld fan, that game and also sacred stones/fuinn no tsurugi were like blocks of gold, and I was nearly run over several times due to on-the-go play. I'm now a 19 year old university student who still gets kicks out of slaying random mages with some quirky, gambling swordmaster etc etc. The point of this random spiel: you translators are BRILLIANT people!! Bringing more kick ass fire emblem to us non-japanese-speaking fans :D thank you! And on a more relevant note, don't worry about the name boxes, we all know who Jagen is I hope..

    1. well shit, you just gave me a good idea.

I'm not sure but if I have time later today I might go breakdown Shadow Dragon and compare how it loads the graphics with FE12

if they do it the same but with only one minor difference it would mean that we could fix the issue in FE12 by mimicking how it works in FE11

though that assumes that the localizers had the same issue when they translated FE11 from Japanese into English... which we could test by hacking the FE11 (J) dialog into English and then using the letter "g" or "y" and seeing if it gets cut-off

which is a lot of work but it's an idea...

      [/hackingrant]

meh, then again I'm not on the team anymore so maybe I'll just take a nap instead of trying to hack this shit...

of a paladin so i could make my escape? Or in hard mode where i used you as bait to save those much more useful generic soldiers? I mean what good are scapegoats if they don't scapegoat things i mean really Jagen, you fail as a pally
and you can't even succeed at killing yourself SO FAIL!

    /disappoint.

    1. Canon is that you used Frey as bait (he didn't appear in FE1 or 3, and he's the default in FE11 if you play hard mode), but most people use Jagen in Shadow Dragon because... Jagen. FE12 apparently actually explains how Frey survived in his supports. Which very soon we'll be able to read. ^_^
