Parting Words

Hey guys. It's been a while since I last posted. I've been around, of course, but I haven't been bothered to make a blog post because there hasn't been much to tell. I was going to write a long farewell letter, but have decided that that's not really necessary since I just finished up an interview that I did for a commenter, Lucero, and his blog. You can read that here. It's got pretty much everything I wanted to say in it and more, and will hopefully give you guys some insight into what was happening behind the scenes (i.e. not much).

It's been fun. I'm glad that I took on the task of translating this game, because I've learned so much from it and gotten to know some pretty cool people. I've also fulfilled my long-time dream of making a major contribution to the community. My name will forever be there when you play the twelfth instalment of Fire Emblem. They will speak my name in the songs to come, and when my story turns to legend, and legend to myth, all that will remain will be my name: Agro. In short, I am now immortal.

I'm just kidding. I'm not that psychotic. Nor am I a typical FE villain.

But really, it's been cool. A quote:

Katarina: ...Not long now, is it...?
It won't be long until we become Altean knights.
When that happens...

Good night, McDick.

As you can see, I have the maturity of a ten-year-old. It's been a good year. So long, and thanks for all the donations fish.

  7. The Wiki says that you can become more than friends with some characters... It doesn't say or though, it says "and". So does that mean you can become more than just friends with multiple people or is that a misstep made by the wiki?

    1. Some of the MU supports have romantic implications, but they have absolutley no effect on anything gameplay-wise. This means that, yes, there's nothing stopping you from going the harem route. Just note that, unlike Awakening, THIS WILL NOT AFFECT ANYTHING. Oh, and only certain people get romantic supports.

  9. Now, one thing I have been wondering:

What will happen if one attempts to play a wifi match against a regular japanese copy? Is either end of the game going to spaz out from the english character set one player is using, or what?

  10. I'm just leaving this here, because it's the latest post, but are you guys releasing like the tools you used/created and the knwoledge you've gained (like how the tables are organised and where which text is etc.) after you have released the patch? It would be very useful for people who want to translate the game from English into, say, French or German. I would understand if you would not want to share that kind of stuff, but I sure hope you do.

    1. If you look at the downloads page and scroll down a little you'll see the tools they used. They might have used more, but those ones are there at least.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, I know that, that's why I mostly was interested in knowing if they will share the knowledge about the translation-relevant things within the game.

  11. I am SO EXCITED FOR THIS!
That being said, I just realized something that annoys me a bit. One of the characters name is Ryan, which is my name. So, I can't name the MU after me, without it looking silly. (Though it would be hilarious to see the support conversations between Ryan and Ryan).

    9. If it was FE13 you could call yourself Jake and marry Anna finally.

      Delete
    10. Chuck. XD
Or, alternatively, Dante. Dante's a cool name. Or you could just call him Nayr; Ryan backwards :) I have the same problem; my name is Ryan as well XD

    11. You should go with Justin. Justin Bieber 4 eva!

    12. You could name him Rany

    13. Just name him Chris, since that's his official name. OR, give him long red hair and call him Joshua. Make him in the Fighter class first so he gets the cool jacket, and then reclass him into a myrmidon. Voila! Instant best character in the game. Either that, or make a long black or green haired Mage and call him Soren.

      Delete
    14. I've got it! Still name yourself Ryan, but make it a GIRL Ryan! Perfect!
      I said perfect!
      Perfect!

    15. Oh, wow. Did not expect this. Thanks for all the support in this dark time guys. I-I appreciate this so much. I like the girl Ryan, and Nayr suggestions. But, all of them are so great. Now I can't choose. OH GOD, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO HARD!

      Delete
    16. Ryan Prime, Alpha Ryan, or Omega Ryan. You must establish which one of you is cooler.

      Delete
    17. Well, there are probably thousands of people named Ryan in our world, so why would it be different in the game?

"So what did we decide to go with? You'll just have to play to find out."

  15. About the thing with "Belf". I think it comes from "Belfort". A small city now in eastern france that was once a strategic keypoint in the time of Ludwig XIV.

    1. I don't think so. Japanese are notorious for using English (or actually any other language besides Japanese) very loosely. Titles like "Dragon Quest", "Radiant Historia" may sound cool, but I don't think they are proper English.

      Delete
    2. Well yeah. But most of the Names in Fire Emblem and even Places are mostly taken from european Folklore, Places and Religions.

      When mostly old Places.

Crimea is an existing Place, Bern/Biran is both a reference to the capital of switzerland, Bern. So. It IS not so farfetched to think, that it could be referring to the City of Belfort.

Even Shinon's name is a reference to a city from france.
There is another Charakter named as Praq/Praque.

      Delete
    3. Good point. I looked up some really weird-sounding FE names and to my surprise, they seem to be originated from old European words. As for Berf/Belf, wiktionary told me that "berf" is the Welsh for "verb", or, albeit unlikely, the Kurdish for "snow". The wikia also pointed out some interesting, uh... points.

Seriously, now I'm so curious.

  23. This wait is killing me, man....

It's gonna be even worse for FE13 i believe, since i live in Brazil and gonna have to wait even more time until a copy of FE13 arrive here or risk importing one from the US and getting nabbed at docks or something because of tariffs.

Hey, TheEnd, have any tips from getting FE13 to here when it gets released in the US ?

    1. I-I've never actually imported anything.

    3. yeah but certain countries such things are a lot rarer

though generally speaking you can buy almost anything in America >_<

      Delete
    4. You can definitely buy anything in America. And Lanko, you could probably just bring it in in a package of some sort. How heavily do they search things in Brazil? I figure if you have a friend in the US buy it for you and have them send it in a box of like, personal effects they aren't going to look to closely at it, right? Maybe put it in with a bunch of books or something.

      Delete
    5. And you shouldn't really theend,i ordered a cd like 4 months ago and the thing still didn't deliver to my house still.
worst part? it can't be traceable because of it's stupid code which is traceable in the US but not here(and since the delivery actually got here,i can't trace it now!), and i can't even complain to the people that are actually handling my process(apparently, it's not the mail department)because, for some reason, they have no contact phone.
yeah, big regret :|,i'm still hopeful since there are some people who got their delivery like 6~8 months later but it's slowly dwindling with rage.

      Delete
    6. First anon gave a great tip.
Reading your comment i remembered i imported books from a web store that make such deals with minimal fuss with the authorities and i got them pretty quickly. That's just how i'm gonna do it.
I do have an aunt that works as a consultant in the US, even have a house in Boston, but she comes back at pretty irregular intervals, so i can't rely on that unfortunanely.

Man, that's what you get when leftists are on power. Importing ANYTHING is bad for the ''national industry'',even if none of them produces what you want.
So they not only tax the shit out of everything they still hold the products with tariff authorities and make them take forever to arrive.

  39. Hi guys. I would normally be going HYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPE right now, but unfortunately my grandfather passed away this week. Hopefully I'll be feeling better by the time the patch comes out, but until then...

I just want to say a final thank you to all of you. You guys are seriously awesome. Like I said before, I was a huge fan of TheEnd's Hasha no Tsurugi manga translation. Used to always come home from school anticipating the next volume. Judging by the quality of that, I know this is going to be epic. And Blazer, I know you've done... something awesome FE related. I know you did The Last Promise but I just have this nagging feeling you helped with something else in the past... whatever, you're still awesome. I know NomadicTrooperGirl is great with graphics, nice you got her to help out. And Vincent, well, he ownes SF and is generally great with hacking. Sorry if I left anyone out, but those are just the guys I know. To sum up, everyone who worked on the project is awesome.

I hope this patch lets more people experience this great game. Seriously, it's so much better that SD it's not even funny, and of course Nintendo decides not to localize it. (AAI2 was kinda in the same situation, it's agruably better than AAI1, and it got released around the same time, when the 3DS was already in full swing) Seriously, everyone: play this game. Now.

This game actually holds a special place in my heart, as it's kinda what got me into translating in the first place. Some of you on Serenes Forest will remember (though you probably don't) me doing a log of my first playthrough over there, with rough translations of supports and recruitments that interested me. I confess I mostly used Google Translate (on single words only, of course) and online Kanji dictionaries for most of that, and looking back I cringe at how bad some of it was. But it was that that led me to translate the AAI2 demo, and, well, you know the rest.
Anyway, congratulations for getting the whole game pluss 300-ish supports translated, that's an awful lot of work. Seeing a big project like this actually finish gives me hope for the project I'm working on. My fan translation career is only just beginning, and this game is going to set the standard I compare my work to for a long time. I hope that one day the AAI2 fan translation will achieve as much success as this one. (Actually if it weren't for that I would have offered to joing you guys a long time ago. And speaking of which, I need to get back to those guys before they start asking questions.)
